These towns benefit by creating local jobs while not losing the very people who helped build their community to larger cities where appropriate care is available. The families and residents benefit by eliminating the long, single purpose drive that inhibits loved ones from visiting more often. In these towns the activities in the our Bee Hive Homes become a point of pride for the town. One town changed their parade route to go past the new Bee Hive Home franchise.

There's an old saying in franchising, “You're in business for yourself, but not by yourself.” The reason people get into a franchise is to have control of their own business while at the same time receiving support.

There’s an old saying in franchising, “You’re in business for yourself, but not by yourself.” The reason people get into a franchise is to have control of their own business while at the same time receiving support. Before franchising came along strong in the 1950’s individual business owners had to start from scratch when opening a business. Depending on the business type, the road to success is definately difficult or nearly impossible.

All businesses have what are called barriers to entry – conditions that make starting into certain markets extremely difficult. These include high funding requirements, high technological or trade learning curves, unknown or little-known business practices, tightly controlled markets, stringent government licensing procedures, the need for highly skilled or trained employees, long lead times, and specifically designed facilities.

To create a successful Assisted Living home, one would need to know senior health care, including special needs issues like Alzheimer’s and dementia, government health and welfare policies and procedures at the state and federal levels, administrative and practitioner licensing, senior care marketing, and many other senior care issues including how to create an approved dietician meal plan for the various needs of residents and then cook it for them. Obviously, one would also have to figure out where to put the structure, and then acquire the normal business skills like accounting, business planning, employee management, banking, employment law, employee training, contract law, planning and zoning law, architectural design and engineering, senior care construction design, and construction management just to name a few of the big ones!

Each one of these facets of creating a quality Assisted Living business requires substantial funding and time. Alone, each of these represents a very significant barrier to entry that few if any businesses are able to overcome. Combine these elements into one business model, and the likelihood of success is very slim and very costly.

Bee Hive Homes Assisted Living Franchises represents the newest frontier in franchising in an industry that desperately needs solutions to the coming of the baby boomers. Operating as a franchise, Bee Hive Homes reduces the barriers to entry while at the same time increasing the quality of senior care. Our way of doing business allows a potential franchisee to focus more on senior care and less on all of the other practices that would normally be required to open and operate a quality home. This is classic franchising applied to our greatest natural challenge – the aging of America.

Baby Boomers have worked and competed for all they have, which makes them look at retirement and aging differently. They want to remain active and independent for as long as possible. As their activity level diminishes they are adamant that the senior living model their grandparents were in – convalescent centers or nursing facilities – will not be their future. Boomers see the new assisted living model as a giant step toward what they want their care to be like.

As they currently place their parents into assisted living homes they are wanting more personalization and less grandeur, more ability to influence the care and less of a crowd, and clearly more qualities that are inline with the life they are currently living. They want to remain independent till the end. In the eyes of a Boomer, independent does not only mean being physically able, but more importantly, it means having influence and some control on the surrounding environment. Boomers are mentally ready for physical limitations – they are not, however mentally ready for a loss of influence on their world. Many Assisted Living Facilities do not allow for true independence. Resident and family influence on the activities, meals, and schedules is very limited. They are large and inherently impersonal, full of strangers, and unable to offer consistent, home-like, personalized care.

As the boomers research the best possible place for their parent, they cannot help but look into their own future. They are looking for homes that not only say they will conform to their parents needs, but actually have the capacity to handle the requests for personalization that the boomers themselves make. At Bee Hive Homes Assisted Living Franchises we clearly see the resident and their family as the greatest resource to our care. Our staff becomes an extension of their family. With no large facility to hide in; they are constantly accessible without the typical red tape for care requests. Bee Hive Homes family staff welcomes the input, as they are looking for the personal touch that only a family can provide. This level of care is not just part of the franchised method of our homes – it is an inherent outcome of the accessibility of our staff, the ratio of our staff to our residents, and the very design of the home.

In partnership with Insight Public Television, the charismatic Hugh Downs will feature Bee Hive Homes in an educational public television segment which will air to over 150 million viewers and be carried by American Artists into national distribution together with Voice of America who will place the program into international markets. The public television documentary will eventually reach over 200 cities in 127 countries worldwide.

”Bee Hive Homes represents the most innovative solution for Senior Care in a market filled with ever larger and ever more impersonal care giving programs,” stated Twayne Walker, Founder of Bee Hive Homes, “and I am excited to see that Insight has taken notice of our intimate and home-like environment. Now, those who feel the need to create something better will hopefully take notice and become a part of our network as a small assisted living franchise.”

Insight Public Television has placed a solid “third-party” endorsement onto our unique business model. We found that their view of our solution for aging America is right in line with the quality we see in our homes across the states. When discussing how the concept for Bee Hive Homes began, Twayne Walker stated that they ” were always looking for something with a very ‘homey’ environment” for their Grandmother. We hope that this national exposure will place this same concept within reach of the many who feel that there should be something more like home for their loved ones.

This corporate piece is the extended version of the national exposure effort that is airing across the country starting in the fall of 2010.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Earlier this year we were approached by Insight Public Television, a content provider of educational material to public television, who specializes in seeking out compelling business stories that represent the cutting edge in their respective industries that are filling a need in society. When Insight ran across Bee Hive Homes Assisted Living Franchise they knew our story would fit perfectly into their programming mandate. Using the footage of the shoot for their educational piece that will be introduced by Hugh Downs, Bee Hive Homes decided to produce this corporate piece along with a 30 second network commercial.

We had many wonderful homes to choose from as we were looking for an ideal location and after discussing the options with Insight we were convinced that the home in Louisville, Mississippi would represent the Bee Hive Homes Franchise perfectly. We are grateful to the owners, staff, and residents who opened their home to the production crew and corporate staff and made us feel welcome, then spoiled us like they do for their residents. Everyone involved had a wonderful and memorable day with fantastic food – we even got to try their famous cornbread salad. We feel that their home perfectly portrayed the family and home quality that Bee Hive Homes Assisted Living Franchise has to offer the nation.

The third party endorsement from Insight is clear evidence of how Bee Hive Homes franchising is currently filling a need in the care spectrum of aging America. The common solutions of larger and more impersonal institutions may look flashy and boast many features, but far too many seniors are having to settle for the isolation that occurs in these large facilities when they would rather be in a place that not only looks like a home but more importantly to them, feels like a home. I hope you listen to the testimonials of these families in the video and imagine the families in your community that would benefit from an assisted living franchise that truly is the next best place to home.

While just 23% of all independent small businesses succeed in the first 5 years, 92% of all franchise businesses are still operating and successful. Bee Hive Homes Assisted Living Franchise easily boasts the same success rate.

In 1996, after nearly a decade of providing exceptional senior care, Bee Hive Homes became a franchisor of residential setting assisted living homes. When that happened, Bee Hive Homes became the first ever combined product of the two fastest growing trends in American business, assisted living homes and franchising.

Franchising Trends

In recent years franchising has played an increasing role in the American economy. With more than 900,000 franchised businesses in operation across the country which are indirectly responsible for providing 21 million jobs and generating $2.3 trillion in economic output, franchises drive the economy. The sheer size and growth of franchising are indicators of how well this method of business is meeting the needs of consumers across the nation.

The franchise explosion is due, in part, to the outstanding success ratio franchises enjoy. While just 23% of all independent small businesses succeed in the first 5 years, 92% of all franchise businesses are still operating and successful. Franchises are successful because they share a combination of the right elements a business requires to prosper: the dedication and commitment of the entrepreneur, an established business system, and the resourcefulness of a large organization.

Assisted Living Trends

According to the U.S. Labor Department, 13 of the 20 fastest-growing occupations between 2004 and 2014 are related to health care. The US bureau of Labor Statistics stated that 26 percent of all new jobs created in the entire U.S. economy before 2018 will be in the healthcare and social assistance industry. They say that the health care industry—which includes public and private hospitals, nursing and residential care facilities, and individual and family services—is expected to grow by 24 percent, or 4 million new jobs. Employment growth will be driven by an aging population and longer life expectancies. As consumers weigh the care options in the senior care market, the Baby Boomers, who are currently placing their parents into long term care facilities, are finding that when their loved one is to a point where they cannot be left alone, even for a short period of time, that assisted living homes meet care needs better, with significantly less cost, than the nursing and convalescent homes ever could.

The Franchising and Assisted Living Combination in a Bee Hive Home Franchise

Unlike many “open one day and franchising the next” franchise companies, Bee Hive Homes Assisted Living Franchise built over the last 23 years successful operational standards of care from the basic building blocks of experience over time, patience, and hard work. A new franchisee clearly inherits this foundation to build a successful, high quality, assisted living business. In no other industry will you find the degree of legal oversight, policies, and procedures, infused into all aspects of construction, licensing, and ongoing business operation. If any industry could benefit from franchising, it is the assisted living industry.

Assisted living is now the standard for out of the home care for seniors. Many corporations are providing assisted living across the country in large planned communities. These facilities can be well over 200 residents with a hotel-like feel. This large institution does not feel right to many residents or their families. Instead of looking like a home, or feeling like a home, it looks like a mall, and needs to be called a center, or a community, or a facility.

Across the country a Bee Hive Homes franchise looks like a real house and in may ways acts like a real home. With our most popular home layout of 16 bedrooms surrounding a central, sky lit and vaulted family room and kitchen, residents are able to feel the difference a real home design can provide. They are able to watch the staff prepare the home cooked meals and at times, in some states, participate in the cooking and the baking. Residents and families feel they are part of a normal, functioning home, with a familiar dining room table, front porch, and back yard. These are homes that fill with family during special occasions, allowing all to take part in the activities and family environment that is part of the Bee Hive Homes Franchise.

Small independent homes, without the backing of a franchise, can fill a great need in the communities where they operate. These homeowners do their best to create a caring world usually out of remodeling existing homes, homes with stairs, tight and limited bathrooms, and narrow halls with tight doorways. These facilities can have great curb appeal but lack the internal structure that combines appropriate assisted living care with a home-like setting. Furthermore, the owners are left to their own proactive efforts to learn what best practices they should be implementing. At minimum, they are left to the state rules and regulations to guide them in their care practices.

Our franchisees are trained and become part of a growing networked community of care providers that support and help one another. At a Bee Hive Homes franchise, residents, staff, and owners benefit from the experience of over 23 years with world class procedures, policies, activities, regulations and oversight capability to help the franchisee provide truly excellent care combined with a small home setting.
